Privacy Policy — Live Update for Miele
Live Update for Miele shows the live status of your Miele appliances on your phone's Lock Screen and in the app. This policy explains exactly what data the app handles and why. It is deliberately minimal: the app is a personal utility and is built to hold as little about you as possible. The same policy applies to the iOS and Android versions of the app.

What the app handles
- A random install identifier. On first launch the app generates a random UUID and a key pair (stored in the device's secure keystore/keychain). This identifier lets the backend recognise your install so it can send you push updates. It is not linked to your name, email, phone number, Apple ID, or Google account, and is not used for advertising or cross-app tracking.
- Your Miele account link. When you choose to link your Miele account, you sign in on Miele's own website (the app never sees your Miele password). Miele issues the backend an access token that lets it read the status of your appliances (which machines you have, the running program, phase, and time remaining). This is used only to show you that status. You can unlink at any time, which deletes the stored token.
- Appliance status data. Device names, program and phase names, and remaining time flow through the backend to build the Lock-Screen updates you see. This is your own appliance data, shown back to you.
- A push registration token. Provided by Apple's push service (APNs) on iOS or Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) on Android, so the backend can wake the app to update the Lock-Screen notification.
- Crash diagnostics (Bugsnag). If the app crashes, a diagnostic report — device model, OS version, and a stack trace, plus a random crash-reporting identifier — is sent to Bugsnag (SmartBear) so bugs can be fixed. It does not contain your appliance data or account.
- Subscription status. If you subscribe, the purchase is processed entirely by Apple (App Store) on iOS or Google (Google Play) on Android. The backend receives only a transaction identifier / entitlement status to unlock the paid feature. The app never receives or stores your payment details.
How it is used
Solely to provide the service: authenticate your install, read and display your appliance status, deliver Lock-Screen updates, diagnose crashes, and manage your subscription entitlement. It is never used for advertising or sold to anyone.
Who it is shared with
The data is not sold. It is shared only with the service providers needed to run the app, each acting on the developer's behalf:
- Apple — push delivery (APNs) and subscription billing (App Store) on iOS.
- Google — push delivery (Firebase Cloud Messaging) and subscription billing (Google Play) on Android.
- SmartBear (Bugsnag) — crash diagnostics.
- Miele — only to read your own appliance status, and only after you authorise it.
Retention and deletion
- Unlink in the app removes the stored Miele token and push registration on the backend.
- To request deletion of any remaining data associated with your install, email support@rossbacher.us. Because the install identifier is a random UUID with no personal data attached, deletion is by that identifier.
Security
All network traffic uses HTTPS (encrypted in transit). The signing key pair is held in the hardware-backed secure keystore/keychain and never leaves the device.
Children
The app is a household utility and is not directed to children under 13.
Changes
Any change to this policy will be posted at this page with an updated date.
